Glentoran Community Trust are delighted to present the latest in our GCTretro range, with the release of the iconic 1996/97 "Big Chicken" Glentoran shirt.

* Supporters first got a glimpse of this remarkable shirt at the Stena Line tournament in Stranraer. Le Coq Sportif (as was the norm in the mid Nineties) tried to achieve optimum advertising potential within the shirt design by incorporating their Cockerel logo all down the right hand side of the jersey. This shirt would be known perennially as the “Big Chicken Shirt” it would also achieve notoriety as the shirt worn by the Glens in Prague on the night they crashed out of Europe on the end of an 8-0 thrashing by the Czech Republic side!

Players kept coming and going throughout the season with manager Tommy Cassidy picking up Tom McCourt, John Drake, Rory Hamill, Phil Mitchell along with Tunisian Noureddine Maamria and Dutch goalkeeper Guido Van der Kamp in a six month spell. The shirt (worn with white shorts and socks) only lasted a year but it has since become a cult classic at the Oval.
