GCT European Dream DVD

GCT European Dream DVD
28th March 2009

Thanks to the dogged determination of Glentoran Community Trust member Lawrence Harland, the GCT are proud to announce that we have managed to secure a substantial archive of unseen film footage covering Glentoran at home and abroad throughout the Sixties and Seventies, which in turn led to members of the GCT painstakingly trawling through thousands of Glentoran related over the last few months.

March 2009 sees the DVD release of “A European Dream” (a GCT production in association with Forza TV). A wealth of colour footage has been uncovered, amongst which is the 1974 European Cup Winners Cup Quarter-Final versus Borrusia Monchengladbach at the Oval, European ties with Glasgow Rangers at Ibrox (66), Benfica (67) including Glentoran fans in Lisbon, Anderlecht in Brussels (68), Basel Switzerland (76), Valur of Iceland (77), and of course a look at Juventus in Belfast in 1977.

“European Dream” will also include incredibly rare Greek film footage of Glentoran as the side battle the mighty Panathanaikos in the Bear Pit of Athens in the European Cup of 1964, and of the Glentoran team as they travel by coach to Ibrox for the 1966 Cup Winner’s Cup clash with Glasgow Rangers. The DVD also includes full second-half Radio Commentary of Glentoran versus Rangers in the famous 1-1 draw at the Oval.

Incorporating design detail by Clifford Logan,  “European Dream” will be produced by the GCT under special licence, and will go on sale at various outlets on a launch date to be decided.

This priceless footage has been acquired through our unique existence as a Community Trust, and we are delighted to report that GCT member, and author of “Glentoran, A Complete Record”  Roy France has ploughed some of the proceeds from his book into helping us acquire this unbelievable piece of our great history.
